Transition from school to the world of work

The transition from school to the world of work is an important phase in every young person's life. With its regional project "Kein Abschluss ohne Anschluss" (no dead-end qualifications) Nordrhein-Westfalen has started to implement a new transparent and gender-sensitive transition system from school to the world of work. Its aim is for all schoolchildren to reflect on the choices they make regarding career or university programme. This provides them with real educational and training prospects when they leave school. For young migrants, this transition phase involves additional challenges, such as language barriers and insufficient knowledge of the German education system, which are not faced by their Germany-born peers. To overcome these challenges and boost the self-esteem of young migrants, and also to make the transition to working life easier, the Municipal Integration Centre of the District of Soest provides additional support initiatives.

This was the aim of the working group "Transition from school to work for children from migrant families" founded in March 2014. The working group develops and integrates concepts and projects for young people, parental education, cooperation with companies and networking, and foregrounds young people's potential in particular.

Intercultural Assessment Centre  
 

In 2015 the "Transition from school to the world of work for young people from migrant families" working group devoted itself in particular to realising the Intercultural Assessment Center (IAC). In this project the young people experience their own intercultural potential, such as intercultural competencies and multi-lingual capabilities. They develop self-confidence by positive, practically focused interaction with this potential and are given support in developing prospects for a successful career. The IAC concept was developed with the support of the Remscheid Municipal Integration Centre. Since 2015 the Municipal Integration Centre of the District of Soest has been organising observation training and holding intercultural assessment centres in schools in secondary level I and II.  



Intercultural parental cooperation

A further focal point of the working group is the collaboration with parents from other countries. The Integration Centre is currently working on a concept for this topic.
