Studying
The allgemeine Hochschulreife, the Abitur (general qualification for university entrance), is required for studies at a German university.
The advanced technical college certificate is required if you want to study at a university of applied sciences.
If you have newly immigrated to the district of Soest, you will have your foreign school and university certificates translated, certified and recognized. The translation has to be performed by a translator who is court-accredited in Germany.
If you, as a German citizen, want to have your foreign school and university certificates recognized: the district government Düsseldorf and the district government Cologne are responsible for the recognition in North Rhine Westphalia.
Do you have a foreign nationality and want to have your foreign school and university certificates recognized for the admission to a university (in Germany), please contact the university/university of applied sciences where you want to study. This university is also responsible for the recognition of your previous academic achievements.
You will have to proof adequate language skills for the university admission (DSH = German language proficiency test for university admission) in order to be able to take you your studies.
Information about university studies are provided on the respective website of the universities.
Very good and comprehensive information on the requirements for university studies in Germany are also provided on the websites of the German embassy or consulate of your home country which may be called up here via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany.
